What was a commanding Vikings' advantage turned into a competitive and hard-fought match, but the Hornets came up just short. SUNY Broome battled with 10 players for the full 90 minutes, displaying exceptional resilience and determination.
Hudson Valley took early control of the first half with goals in the 15th, 20th, and 30th minutes to build a 3-0 lead. The Vikings then struck again twice early in the second half before SUNY Broome would regroup to mount its impressive comeback effort.
In the 63rd minute, Adrianna Finta broke through multiple defenders and beat the goalkeeper to score SUNY Broome's first goal of the match. Just two minutes later, Finta found Paige Weaver, who delivered a cross into the box that Jalyn McCarthy converted for the Hornets' second goal. SUNY Broome continued to apply pressure, and in the 74th minute, Finta scored her second goal of the game off a pass up the middle from Katie Sanford.
Goalkeepers Madeline Hyzer and Paisley Jeziorski shared time in net, as Jeziorski made her goalkeeping debut, combining for 10 saves to keep the Hornets within striking distance.
The Hornets conclude the 2025 season with a 3-8-2 record, going 3-8-1 in NJCAA Region III play, and 2-4 in Mid-State Athletic Conference (MSAC) games. The team's determination and competitive spirit especially in battling back serve as a strong foundation as it looks ahead to next season.
Head Coach Chris Grafton shared a final remark about his team at the close of the season, "I'm proud of the determination and never-give-up attitude of our players. We started to turn things around in the right direction later in the season than we hoped, but this group showed tremendous growth and maturity throughout the year. Even when things didn't go our way, their response and effort never wavered. They've shown that they can overcome obstacles and achieve their goals, and I'm excited to see what the future holds for our team."
