The women's soccer team was defeated 9-1 in a tough conference matchup on the road on Wednesday.
SUNY Broome opened the match strong on attack, creating early chances and striking first in the 16th minute. Grace Deyo orchestrated a corner kick on which Paige Weaver made a clever touch in the box to set up Katelynn DuBois for her second goal in as many games, and put the Hornets up 1-0.
However, Jefferson responded quickly with a breakaway goal in the 20th minute to level the score. The match remained tied until late in the first half when Jefferson surged ahead with three goals in the 35th, 37th, and 42nd minutes to go into the halftime break with a 4-1 edge.
While the Hornets persisted in the second half, the relentless attack of Jefferson added five more goals to secure a 9-1 victory.
Hornets goalkeeper Madeline Hyzer made 17 saves in the contest.
SUNY Broome falls to 0-1-1 with the loss and now turns its focus to another MSAC competition, a home match vs Genesee CC on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
