The women's soccer team scored three goals in each half and Adrianna Finta struck for a hat trick en route to a 6-1 win over Erie CC on Sunday.
Both teams opened the match with aggressive attacking play, but it was SUNY Broome that won out on the offensive end to the tune of six goals.
In the 20th minute, Finta dribbled up the field and beat several Erie defenders before slotting home the Hornets' opening goal. Just four minutes later, a slick passing combination between Paisley Jeziorski and Jalyn McCarthy set up Finta outside the box, where she ripped in her second goal of the day. SUNY Broome added a third first-half goal when Paige Weaver drove up the flank, cut inside, and fired past the Erie goalkeeper. The Hornets took a 3-1 lead into the break.
The second half was largely controlled by SUNY Broome as the Hornets maintained possession and continue to create scoring opportunities while keeping the Kats under pressure. Finta completed her hat trick in the 61st minute with a solo run, securing her third goal of the game.
Zephora Brouillette then added to the tally, finishing from inside the box in the 69th minute before tapping home another in the 78th minute when she found a loose ball just in front of the goal.
Goalkeeper Madeline Hyzer made four saves to anchor the Hornets' defense.
With the win, SUNY Broome improves to 2-5-1 on the season and will look to build momentum at home on Wednesday vs Tompkins Cortland CC.
