The women's soccer team lost an 8-0 decision to Herkimer College in a road match on Saturday.
From the opening whistle, both teams went back and forth, creating numerous scoring opportunities. Herkimer struck in the seventh minute with a breakaway play to take a 1-0 lead. Despite the early setback, SUNY Broome responded with strong defensive play and several offensive runs, ensuring the remainder of the first half remained tightly contested.
The Generals broke through again in the 55th minute, and despite SUNY Broome's best efforts, six more goals followed before the final whistle, the last coming in the 90th minute.
The Hornets' defense demonstrated grit throughout the match, with goalkeeper Madeline Hyzer delivering a standout performance. She recorded 21 saves on the day, many of them in dangerous 1v1 situations and full-extension dives across the net. Her performance kept the Hornets in the match, despite being outshot by Herkimer 30-6.
The loss dropped SUNY Broome to 0-3-1 on the season.
