The first contest resulted in a 9-1 final after seven innings and the second game of the day was a 15-2 final after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
The two losses meant SUNY Broome dropped its fourth game in a row, and the Hornets moved to 7-21 on the season. Tompkins Cortland improved to 4-27 with the two wins.
Game 1: SUNY Broome 1, Tompkins Cortland 9
After two scoreless innings, the Panthers jumped ahead with four runs in the top of the 3rd. SUNY Broome answered with a run in the bottom half, but that was the only run the Hornets plated in the game. Tompkins Cortland padded its lead with two runs in the 4th and three in the 6th.
The Panthers logged 11 hits in the game while the Hornets were limited to five. Each team committed three errors.
Bailey O'Connor was the starting pitcher for the Hornets. He allowed seven hits and six runs while walking three and striking out two over 3.2 innings. Nicky Rubio-Reyes pitched the next 2.0 innings and allowed two runs. Evan Persbacker allowed two hits and a run in 1/3 of an inning, and then Vernon Stevens pitched a scoreless inning in the 7th.
Zechariah Clouston was responsible for two of the Hornets' five hits. Thomas Reis Jr. also had a hit and an RBI and drew a walk. Peter Cruz had a hit and drew a walk. Kaiden Cannistra had a hit and scored a run and stole a base.
Game 2: SUNY Broome 2, Tompkins Cortland 15
The second contest was even at 1-1 after the first inning, but then the Panthers plated 14 combined runs in the 2nd and 3rd while the Hornets got just one run in the 2nd. The fourth and fifth innings were scoreless.
The Panthers continued their hitting outburst with 14 base knocks and SUNY Broome had five. Tompkins Cortland made one error and SUNY Broome made three.
Ethan Matthews was the Hornets' starting pitcher, allowing five hits and five earned runs over 1.2 innings. He walked one and struck out three. Persbacker cleaned up for the final out of the 2nd. From there, Stevens pitched the third inning and allowed nine runs. Landon Hepditch was called upon to pitch the 4th and 5th, and he delivered two scoreless innings while allowing just two hits.
Carmelo Alessandro collected two of the Hornets' five hits. He doubled and walked, also scoring a run and stealing a base. Reis Jr. had a double and an RBI. Cruz had a double and scored a run. Cade Raleigh had a hit and an RBI.
