Baseball Falters At Corning

The Hornets lost the first game 10-1 in seven innings and lost the second game 16-3 in five innings due to the 10-run rule.
SUNY Broome fell to 7-19 on the season and Corning improved to 5-22.
Looking ahead, the Hornets will embark on a streak of what is scheduled to be four days of games in a row, beginning with a doubleheader at home vs Tompkins Cortland CC on Thursday.
Game 1: SUNY Broome 1, Corning 10
Protecting their home turf, the Red Barons asserted themselves early and often with nine runs through the first three innings, including six in the 2nd. SUNY Broome did not score its first and only run of the game until the top of the 4th. Corning added another run in the bottom of the 6th before closing out the Hornets in the 7th.

Emmanuel Aponte-Cardozo received the starting pitching nod and went an inning, allowing one run on two walks. Alex Lamoreaux was called upon for 1.1 innings of relief, surrendering five hits, six runs, one walk, and gaining one strikeout. Evan Persbacker mopped up the final 3.2 innings and allowed three runs while walking none and striking out two.
Santino Michitti collected two of the Hornets' six hits. Thomas Reis Jr. and Peter Cruz were each 1-3 with a double. Luke Grassi also had a hit, and Zechariah Clouston had the sixth SUNY Broome hit and drove in the lone run.
Game 2: SUNY Broome 3, Corning 16
The Hornets got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the 1st and another in the 2nd, but did not score the rest of the way. Corning quickly turned its 3-2 deficit into a 7-3 lead with five runs in the 3rd, and then exploded for nine runs in the 4th. Just like that, Corning was up 16-3 after four innings and shut SUNY Broome down in the top of the 5th, enacting the mercy rule with a 10-run advantage after five innings.
All three of SUNY Broome's hits were singles, and all three came within the first two innings. The Hornets were then left hitless and scoreless for the remainder of the contest.
Brady Blair was 1-3 with a run scored. Cade Raleigh was 1-2 with a run scored. Ethan Matthews logged the Hornets' third hit. Kaiden Cannistra scored a run.
Gregory Inserillo took the mound to start for SUNY Broome and allowed two hits, five runs, and four walks over 2.0 innings. Persbacker made his second relief appearance of the day to pitch an inning. Following Persbacker, Clouston allowed six runs in 1/3 of an inning. Hunter Thornton allowed three more Corning runs before Matthews closed out the final 2/3 of the 4th without allowing a hit, a walk, or a run.
