The Hornets were looking to close out a 3-0 sweep in their home gymnasium after taking the first two sets from the Hawks, 25-20 and 25-10. Then Mohawk Valley made things interesting, rallying from down 2-0 to tie the match at 2-2 with nail-biting 27-25 and 25-23 wins in the third and fourth sets.
With the contest locked at two sets apiece, Masso, who had been fueling the Hornets' offensive attack all match, dominated for the entirety of the decisive fifth set. She collected five kills with no errors in seven attempts, good for an incredible .714 hitting percentage. Masso willed her team to a 15-8 win in the fifth set as the Hornets took the match, 3-2.
Masso accounted for a match-high 26 points on the day, picking up 24 kills on 44 total attempts, compiling an elite hitting percentage of .500. She also added 13 digs.
Amariah Argro contributed 10 kills and 13 digs. Katie Christian had nine digs and Cecelia Cole had seven kills. Kendra Terrell added a whopping 42 assists.
SUNY Broome improved to 2-3 on the season with the win.
