The men's track & field team competed in the NJCAA National Championship meet last weekend and had a great showing that included multiple personal records and an All-American recognition.
Joseph Dantuono was at the forefront of the team's effective performance, as his finish in the discus event checked three remarkable boxes. Dantuono threw a distance of 36.64 meters in the discus, which marked a personal record and a school record. With this result, Dantuono placed 7th overall, which meant he also earned All-American status. The NJCAA awards All-American honors to the top eight finishers in each of the events at the National Championship.
Dantuono just missed another All-American nod in the shot put, as he placed 10th overall by throwing a distance of 12.17 meters.
Continuing the record-setting trend, Avery Palumbo set a personal best and school best in the 400 meter hurdles event with a time of 59.63 seconds. Breaking the elusive one minute (1:00) barrier, Palumbo beat his previous personal record and school record time of 1:00.01.
Additionally, Nevan Doubleday set a personal best and school best in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.89 seconds. He finished 21st in the event. Doubleday outdid his previous best of 22.90, which was not only his personal record but the school record, too.
In another record-breaking performance, Jacob Quail turned in a time of 19:33.74 in the 5K. This shaved almost a minute off his previous 5K PR, which was 20:28.64.
Pharvensky Pamphil participated in the triple jump and the long jump. He placed 11th overall in the triple jump with a distance of 12.0 meters. He placed 18th overall in the long jump with a distance of 5.47 meters.
Thomas Strong also participated in the long jump and placed 15th overall with a measurement of 5.80 meters.
Lastly, the 4x400 meter relay team recorded a time of 3:40.38. The team consisted of Bryson Castro, Maaz Hussain, Doubleday, and Palumbo.
Hats off to the men's track & field team on a successful season in which the men posted several personal and school records, and added to the program's reputation of leading student-athletes to NJCAA All-American status.
