Men Log Six Top-10 Finishes To Start Season
The SUNY Broome men's track & field team started the 2026 season by posting six top-10 finishes at the Red Dragon Open hosted by SUNY Cortland on Friday.
The SUNY Broome men's track & field team started the 2026 season by posting six top-10 finishes at the Red Dragon Open hosted by SUNY Cortland on Friday.
Nevan Doubleday had an excellent start to his season by tallying two personal bests and setting two school records. Doubleday ran a 23.26 in the 200 meter dash, which is a personal best time and a new school record, surpassing the previous record of 23.78 seconds set in 2025. Additionally, Doubleday's time met the qualifying standard for the NJCAA National Championship meet. Doubleday also finished 10th overall in the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.96 seconds, which is a new personal best and school best. Doubleday had owned the previous SUNY Broome record of 56.00 flat.
Joseph Dantuono also had a strong day, competing in two events and placing inside the top 10 in both. In the shot put, Dantuono placed 10th overall and threw 12.78 meters, which set a new school record and met the qualifying standard for Nationals. Dantuono's mark surpassed the previous SUNY Broome record from 2023 of 11.95 meters. Dantuono also finished 9th overall in the javelin with a throw of 32.77 meters.
Thomas Strong finished 10th overall in the long jump with a distance of 5.92 meters. He also ran the 100 meter dash in 11.88 seconds.
Pharvensky Pamphil gave SUNY Broome its fifth top-10 finish on the day when he placed 10th overall in the triple jump with a distance of 12.41 meters. He also jumped 5.43 meters in the long jump.
Jacob Quail set a new personal best in the 800 meter run, finishing in a time of 2:25.72. He also ran a 21:15.83 in the 5K.
Avery Palumbo completed the 400 meter hurdles event in a time of 1:05.35.
Bryson Castro ran the 400 meter dash in 57.22 seconds. Maaz Hussain ran the 200 meter dash in 25.48 seconds and ran the 400 meter dash in 57.28 seconds. Muhammad Abbas also competed in the 400 meter dash and ran a 1:05.18.
Kevin Montoya threw 6.68 meters in the shot put.
SUNY Broome's sixth top-10 finish of the meet was when the 4x400 meter relay team took 8th place with a time of 3:44.09, beating out four-year NCAA schools such as Oswego and Oneonta. The 4x400 meter relay group was comprised of Castro, Doubleday, Hussain, and Palumbo.
In summary, the men's team set three personal records and three school records at the meet, in addition to meeting the National Championship qualifying standard in two events, while totaling six top-10 finishes overall.
