On a snowy Saturday in Fort Dodge, Iowa, Sage Tifft made an incredible National Championship debut by recording a new personal best time for the 5K distance.
The 2025 NJCAA National Championships for men's and women's cross country took place on Saturday, November 8 at Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge, Iowa as the event was hosted by nearby Iowa Central Community College.
Tifft competed in a field of 80+ runners for the Division 3 Women's 5K. She placed 45th overall, nearly in the top half of the race, and completed the race in a time of 25:18.8. Remarkably, this time, despite obstacles such as the cold, the wind, and the snowy conditions of the course, was Tifft's career-best time for the 5K distance.
The above fact provides the context and paints the picture of how great of a race Tifft ran. As does this fact: out of six races on the day (men's and women's race at the Division 1, Division 2, and Divison 3 levels), only 33 runners set a PR (personal record) and Tifft was one of them.
Tifft's time of 25:18.8 was nearly a 30-second improvement from her previous best time for a 5K which was 25:43.00.
Additionally, Tifft showed once again that she is one of the best runners in NJCAA Region 3 this season as she was the sixth runner from the region to finish the race.
