The SUNY Broome competitive cheer team hosted a signing day for several incoming student-athletes last Wednesday, May 6.
Coaches and student-athletes from the current roster, along with the SUNY Broome Athletic Department and the SUNY Broome Vice President for Student Development & Chief Diversity Officer/Executive Director, welcomed in eight soon-to-be student-athletes and one current SUNY Broome Freshman who will join the team in the Fall of 2026.
Madison Brown, Elizabeth "Libby" Jurena, twins Ava Sager and Emma Sager, Yeazelle Sapp, Olivia Sue Swayze, Kya Vargas, and Olivia Webb all signed their letters of intent and finalized their commitment to joining the program in the upcoming academic year.
Also in attendance was Hailey Arruda, who is already a student at SUNY Broome. Her appearance at the event was to celebrate the fact that she too will be a member of the program beginning next year in her Sophomore year at SUNY Broome.
The collection of incoming student-athletes is a strong representation of the sport's talent in the local area. Brown, A. Sager, E. Sager, and Sapp are all from Binghamton High School. Jurena is from Whitney Point High School, Swayze is from Spencer-Van Etten High School, and Webb is from Newark Valley High School. Vargas is from Spencerport High School in Monroe County, NY.
Coming off a strong 2025-26 season in which the Hornets were the National Champion in one routine and the National Runner-Up in another routine at the AmeirCheer Hershey National competition, SUNY Broome Athletics and the program are very excited for the bright future of the team with these student-athletes joining the mix soon.
