Women's Soccer Season Ends On A High Note

The women's soccer team ended their remarkable season with a 3-0 victory over top-seeded Herkimer College, good enough for a 3rd place finish in the NJCAA Women's Soccer Championships. SUNY Broome entered the National competition in Toms River, NJ as the #3 seed with a record of 15-1-2 and earned a 1-0 first round win over DuPage College (15-5-2) out of Illinois. The Hornets fell 3-0 to the eventual National Champion, Brookdale CC (16-1-0) out of New Jersey placing the ladies in the third place game against Region III rival Herkimer College (16-1-0), the #1 seed going into the tournament.

Behind one of the nation's best defensive units the Hornets held the Generals to only 1 shot on goal while amassing 15 shots on their way to the victory. Leading scorer Kaelyn Michitti (Binghamton, NY/Seton Catholic) led the way with two goals on the day and another was added by Alexa Rudilosso (Centereach, NY/Centereach) to finish the scoring. "Third in the Nation is an amazing accomplishment having lost only to the top team" said Coach Bill Rich. "I am extremely proud of our team in the way that they handled themselves throughout the season, ending up 17-2-2 and able to play with the best teams in the country".

Named to the All-Tournament team were Sophomore Rosemary Zelenyak (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) and Freshman Nicole Harmer (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta HS).
